Contract of Employment
Some companies will issue a contract of employment, this will highlight what they expect from you and what your employment rights are. You should read these carefully as once signed, or if you commence work, its accepted that you agree to the terms.

If there are any changes to your employment rights, you should be notified and given a notice period. This could be for a change in job responsibilities or money per hour etc. It may be that a company has a work contract and has lost it, so you will be TUPE over to the company who has recently won it. This may have implications regarding holidays, hourly rates, supervision etc. Regardless, you should ideally keep everything like this, for reference in the future.
Employment Rights Scenario
It is important that you understand your employment rights, for example do you need to take your holidays before the last day in the year? If you don’t, can they be carried over into the next year? If not, do you get the money? There are lots of things to consider which will influence your decisions to do certain things.
If you are a contractor or self-employed, you may be on a different rate from your colleague and you might also not be getting any holiday pay. Circumstances like this can cause upset if you openly talk about your work conditions.
Ask about Training in the employment rights contract, should you receive ongoing training to prove your competence in the job or are you required to do this yourself? There may be funding available if you have to pay for it yourself. It is good for your CV if you keep your skills up to date, so consider looking into doing a course of some sort every year.
